spanish programsLanguage Programs Overview

Through 23 years of experience in teaching Spanish as a second language, the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca has developed integral programs that maintain the goal of increasing the students’ competence in communication to the highest level possible.

Main Program

Students have the opportunity to take formal language classes appropriate to their level, apply what is learned in group conversations, further develop comprehension and speaking abilities in cultural workshops, and synthesize the language and culture through experiences with an intercambio with members of the community.

This program provides the student with 7 hours of daily contact with the Spanish language.

The daily schedule for the main program is as follows:

Spanish classes (3 hours)
Conversation (1 hour)
Cultural workshops (2 hours)
Intercambio / Language Exchange (1 hour)

Students have the option to register for one or more weeks and may begin their classes on any Monday, although it is recommended to begin on the first Monday of each course. Regular courses last 4 weeks.

After the placement exam, students attend an orientation session, which we consider a very important and essential part to a smooth adjustment to Oaxacan life. Placement Exams and Student Orientations are given every Saturday and Monday morning.

In addition, the students may participate in the Instituto Bulletin Board or in other types of activities that expose them to Mexican culture, such as: conferences, movie screenings and discussions, concerts, exhibitions, and reading circles.
